Over the course of 8 weeks, I have dived into the tools to create realistic oil paintings. Deepened into color studies to generate realistic skin tones, and studied how light sources effect the skin. In some cases reveal underlying color tones (creating a sub-surface scattering like effect). Those past few weeks gave me a solid foundation to produce a portrait in the near future.
Mixing colors right is a crucial part of painting, you will have to match the paint colors with your subject as close as possible. While doing so keeping its context in mind. Being slightly off will result in your painting looking weird.
When applying the paint to your canvas, there is a lot of room for adjustments. Since drying the paint takes a day or two depending on the temperature. This time span gives you the control to iterate until you are satisfied with your result.
